Between primeval noise and harmony of the spheres: the music of Hermann Nitsch

Between primeval noise and harmony of the spheres: the music of Hermann Nitsch

28. - 30.09.2018

The roots of Hermann Nitsch’s Theatre of Orgies and Mysteries are primarily philosophical and musical. Nitsch’s musical oeuvre, which is an interesting blend of Anton Bruckner and John Cage, comprises not only “performance music” but also symphonies, ensemble and organ works. This seminar provides an intensive immersion into the philosophical/musical world of Hermann Nitsch and his Theatre of Orgies and Mysteries. With audio samples featuring commentary, Nitsch’s music is linked more closely with his entire oeuvre. The workshop is run by Dr. Leopoldo Siano, musicologist and lecturer at the University of Cologne.
