Beginning and end: nitsch museum Mistelbach
Hermann Nitsch (1938 – 2022) is a co-founder of Viennese Actionism and one of the most important action artists in art history. Today, his works are represented in top collections, both nationally and internationally. His magnum opus, the Orgies Mysteries Theatre, is a completely new kind of total work of art. This takes the form of a complex and interdisciplinary action theatr, the focus of which is a 6-day play. One year after Hermann Nitsch's death, the Prinzendorf Castle will be opened to the interested public for two days. Hermann Nitsch loved the castle, which was in ruins at that time, and chose it as the venue for his 6-day play. Here, he lived and worked in his studio, keeping his beloved dogs, cats, donkeys, geese, and peacocks. With the active support of his wife Rita, this baroque gem was lovingly restored and has become a magnet for visitors and friends from all over the world.
