Movie: Painting Action “Valkyrie”

The nitsch museum is proud to present a film of Hermann Nitsch’s complete painting action that accompanied a concert version of Richard Wagner’s Valkyrie at the Bayreuth Festival in 2021. Thanks to the intensive efforts of Rita Nitsch, the powerful, ephemeral acoustics and images have been brought to life once more in a film montage of the complete 4-hour opera that was compiled using film material from the dress rehearsal and the premiere. The result is a cinematic testimony to the congenial blending of Wagnerian sound and the actionism of Hermann Nitsch.
