‘I wanted to become a church painter,’ Nitsch once claimed. Although he did not become a church painter, the sacred has always remained a central element in his Gesamtkunstwerk. For him, the rituals of all religions were characterised by a strong sensual expressiveness, as their symbolism and mythology can lead to the depths of being. The chalices, monstrances and chasubles used in Nitsch's work are essential components of the Eucharist in Christian liturgy, in which transformation takes place. Bread and wine become flesh and blood.

Pouring & dripping
In this workshop, we focus on ‘colour as substance’: instead of drawing lines and shapes, paint is poured and splashed onto the canvas. The process of movement becomes an image; the action of pouring and dripping shapes the artwork. We experiment with the power of the material and explore the question: why did Hermann Nitsch work without a brush?

Drawings & Paintings
We begin with spontaneous lines and doodles, drawing the first thing that comes to mind. Oil pastels are used to add colour to the surfaces, bringing the drawing to life. An invitation to work spontaneously and experience how lines and colour merge into an intense overall work.

Graphic Art
Printing is more than just the reproduction of images – it is a transformation of form, line and colour. Hermann Nitsch devoted himself primarily to the design of architectural structures. In this workshop, we will learn about various printing techniques in order to create our own works. The result will be unique works of art that bring the creative process of printing to life.

Colour theory & Music
Synesthetic perception, the interplay of multiple senses, is an important component of Nitsch's oeuvre. Each colour is assigned a taste, smell or sound and transferred to paper. The workshop invites participants on a creative journey between visual and acoustic impressions. 

1.5 hours / €11.00 per pupil per workshop (including admission) / minimum 10 pupils Note: A joint work of art will be created during the workshop. Each pupil will take part of the work home with them.
