“Nitsch in Bomarzo” is a book that, together with the film “Bei den Ungeheuern”, documents the genesis of some of Hermann Nitsch's most important works in Italy. In memory of his late friend and mentor, Giuseppe Zevola will present the Bomarzo project at the Nitsch Foundation on August 29 from 18:30.
Giuseppe Zevola is a philosopher, poet, performance artist, music artist and reader. He draws his inspiration from the Neapolitan philosopher Giordano Bruno. Zevola's work and life is strongly influenced by intellectual exchange with famous artists of the 20th century, including Hermann Nitsch, experimental filmmaker Peter Kubelka, Italian philosopher Antonio Gargano, Lithuanian film artist Jonas Mekas (1922-2019) and others.
In 1979, when Nitsch was writing his drama “King Oedipus” in Cuma (Italy), Zevola brought him food and wine every day and then they gazed at the starry sky together. In 1980, he spontaneously took part in the 68th Action in Florence and from then on accompanied Nitsch on his travels around the world. In 2013, Nitsch designed a room dedicated to him in Zevola's house in Bomarzo with relics, bulk pictures and a pharmacy. The project finally culminated in the short intimate action “Adam and Eve”, the 139th action.
10 years later, Zevola came to terms with the death of his beloved friend and mentor Hermann Nitsch by compiling his memories in a book. On Friday, August 29, 2025, he will present this book “Nitsch in Bomarzo” and the film “Bei den Ungeheuern” for the first time in Austria.
